The Basics of LAP-BAND Surgery
The concept of laparoscopic gastric banding is fairly straightforward: during the procedure, a bariatric surgeon places a silicone ring around the stomach, effectively creating two stomach pouches. The ring is attached to a "port" through which the surgeon can inject or remove fluid, which causes the gastric band to inflate or deflate.
